Why Should We Pray?

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR AUGUST 16-22, 2020
MEDITATION OF THE WEEK: WHY SHOULD WE PRAY?

“With all prayer and petition pray [with specific requests] at all times [on every occasion and in every season] in the Spirit, and with this in view, stay alert with all perseverance and petition [interceding in prayer] for all God’s people. 19 And pray for me, that words may be given to me when I open my mouth, to proclaim boldly the mystery of the good news [of salvation], 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. And pray that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly and courageously, as I should.” EPHESIANS 6:18-20 (AMP)

DAILY FOCUS

SUNDAY 16 PRAYER OF WORSHIP TO GOD IS VERY IMPORTANT 13“But as for me, my prayer is to You, O LORD, at an acceptable and opportune time; O God, in the greatness of Your favor and in the abundance of Your lovingkindness, Answer me with truth [that is, the faithfulness of Your salvation]…30 I will praise the name of God with song And magnify Him with thanksgiving. 31 And it will please the LORD better than an ox Or a young
bull with horns and hoofs…33 For the LORD hears the needy and does not despise His who are prisoners 34 Let heaven and earth praise Him, the seas and everything that moves in them.” Psalm 69 13-34 (AMP)

MONDAY 17 PRAYER SPIRITUALLY FORTIFIES THE SOUL “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They
shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40 Vs 31(TLB)

TUESDAY 18 PRAYER CHANGES CIRCUMSTANCES
“In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor. 37 About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. 38 Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, “Please come at once!” 39 Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken
upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them. 40 Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up.”
Acts 9 36-40(NIV)

WEDNESDAY 19 ALWAYS REMEMBER TO PRAY FOR OTHERS!
“After the LORD had said these things to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has. 8 So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You have not
spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has.” 9 So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite did what the LORD told them; and the LORD accepted Job’s prayer. 10 After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before.” Pray for the sick, the homeless, the oppressed; the weak & weary, also for lost souls. Pray throughout the day. JOB 42 7-10(NIV)

THURSDAY 20 PRAYER IS A MIGHTY, POWERFUL, SPIRITUAL WEAPON!
“The weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood]. Our weapons are divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. 5We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ, 6 being ready to punish every act of disobedience, when your own
obedience [as a church] is complete.” 2 COR 10 4-6(AMP)

FRIDAY 21 AS BELIEVERS, GOD WILL HOLD US RESPONSIBLE IF WE DO NOT PRAY FOR THAT WHICH HE HAS ASKED US TO “First of all, then, I urge that petitions (specific requests), prayers, intercessions (prayers for others) and thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all people, 2
for kings and all who are in [positions of] high authority, so that we may live a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This [kind of praying] is good and
acceptable and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who [wishes all people to be saved and to come to the
knowledge and recognition of the [divine] truth.”
1 Tim 2 1-4 (AMP)

SATURDAY 22 NEVER STOP PRAYING! WHEN YOU FAIL TO PRAY, IT WILL NOT ONLY GIVE SATAN ROOM IN YOUR LIFE, BUT IN YOUR FAMILY’S, YOUR LOVE ONES’ AND THOSE WHO ARE CONNECTED AND ASSOCIATED TO YOU “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil.” Ephesians 6:11(NIV)

WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT: JAMES 5:16 (NLT). “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”
